To get the player running correctly, first of all check and be sure there is no 1,1,2 signal coming from the game with the label 'Gen. Sound' above it. If there is no signal there, then check and be sure there is no 1,1,2 signal to the application. If the two are not there, then check that the one and two lines are not floating and then check and make sure there is an idle voltage on pin 4. If the signal is there at pin 4 (it should be) then it should be 1,1,2. If there is not a 1,1,2 signal at pin 4 (it should be) then the signal is likely going to be taken from pin 3. Check and be sure there is an idle voltage on pin 5. If it is not, then check and be sure there is no idle voltage on pin 6. 


In some games, a switch that controls the volume is fused together with the audio-chip making a loud beep sound whenever the volume is not within spec. In order to play the game without this fuse, one has to turn off the fuse (and remove it from the game) but then it becomes unclear when the sound is intended to be turned down (unless one interprets the repeated loud beep as the'soft' version). The fuse is a very small value and is not generally in the top to bottom row. A Bally-licensed game I found that uses a fuse is Baseball (or baseball).


The Rival is a two-in-one game - the game cartridge itself is only sold in a plastic case which serves as a slot in the main cabinet. This is a pretty rare game, and currently there's not a lot of info about the Rival online. The box art shows it is from Bally, and it looks like this one has four game boards (e.g. Four Score - there's two rows of three game boards).
