Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@govtechsg/sgds-govtech-react uses bootstrap-icons for certain components like Form but it is not ship with it. Install bootstrap-icons or use CDN if you need it Please refer to bootstrap-icons for usage instructions

Importing Components

You should import individual components like: @govtechsg/sgds-govtech-react/Button rather than the entire library. Doing so pulls in only the specific components that you use, which can significantly reduce the amount of code you end up sending to the client.

import { Button } from '@govtechsg/sgds-govtech-react/Button';

// or less ideally
import { Button } from '@govtechsg/sgds-govtech-react';

Stylesheets

Using CSS / SASS

// In your entry point
// import CSS or
import '@govtechsg/sgds-govtech/sgds/sgds.css';
// import SASS
import '@govtechsg/sgds-govtech/sgds/sgds.scss';

Using CDN

//index.html
<link href='https://v2dev.designsystem.gov.sg/sgds/sgds.css' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'/>

//index.css
@import url('https://v2dev.designsystem.gov.sg/sgds/sgds.css');

Advanced Usage

Customisation with Sass

If you want to modify SGDS's base styling, you can import the Sass source (your project needs to support Sass compilation) and override SGDS's sass variables.

npm install @govtechsg/sgds-govtech@alpha

For example, importing sgds in your own sass file:

// styles/app.scss

// Override SGDS defaults
$primary: rgb(8, 11, 56);
$secondary: #ff8c00;
$warning: rgb(134, 37, 37);

// Import all of sgds
@import '@govtechsg/sgds-govtech/sgds/sgds.scss';

Then, in your app:

import React from 'react';

import './styles/app.scss';

export default function App() {
  return <div>...</div>;
}

For more information on customising with Sass, see the SGDS documentation.

"as" Prop API

With certain SGDS React components, you may want to modify the component or HTML tag that is rendered.

If you want to keep all the styling of a particular component but switch the component that is finally rendered (whether it's a different SGDS React component, a different custom component, or a different HTML tag) you can use the "as" Prop to do so.
