Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

gulp-ionic-channels

Information

This plugin facilitates the handling of Ionic Platform's deploy channels to use a single codebase for several versions of your application.

Usage

This plugin is best used when piped with gulp-ng-constant to generate angular constants such as the deploy channel.

Gulpfile example

gulpfile.js

var gulp = require('gulp');
var ionicChannels = require('gulp-ionic-channels');
var ngConstant = require('gulp-ng-constant');

gulp.task('config', function() {
  gulp.src('./config.json')
  .pipe(ionicChannels({
    channelTag: 'staging'
  }))
  .pipe(ngConstant())
  .pipe(gulp.dest('.'));
});

Input configuration

config.json

{
  "staging": {
    "appId": "fr.theodo.updaty-staging",
    "appName": "Updaty Staging"
  },
  "prod": {
    "appId": "fr.theodo.updaty",
    "appName": "Updaty"
  }
}

Javascript Output

Piping this plugin with gulp-ng-constant will allow the generation of a javascript file containing constants included in the requested deploy channel (from the input configuration), along with the version from your package.json file and the tag of the channel itself.

Apart from the 'Multiple Environments' section of their documentation (which is incompatible with our plugin as it is already handled by it), the other options can be used with no issue.

config.js (output)

angular.module("config", [])

.constant("appId", "fr.theodo.updaty-staging")

.constant("appName", "Updaty Staging")

.constant("version", "0.0.1")

.constant("channelTag", "staging")

;

Input Cordova Configuration Template

config.tpl.xml

<widget xmlns="http://www.w3.org/ns/widgets" xmlns:cdv="http://cordova.apache.org/ns/1.0" id="<%=appId%>" version="<%=version%>">
  <name><%=appName%></name>
  <description>Updaty is a great app which self updates</description>
  <author email="[email protected]" href="http://theodo.fr">Theodo</author>
  <content src="index.html"/>
</widget>

Cordova Configuration Output

config.xml (output)

<widget xmlns="http://www.w3.org/ns/widgets" xmlns:cdv="http://cordova.apache.org/ns/1.0" id="fr.theodo.updaty-staging" version="0.0.1">
  <name>Updaty Staging</name>
  <description>Updaty is a great app which self updates</description>
  <author email="[email protected]" href="http://theodo.fr">Theodo</author>
  <content src="index.html"/>
</widget>

Special thanks

Thanks to the developers/maintainers of gulp-ng-constant, as most of their code was used to create the skeleton for this plugin.
