Once the plugin has been installed, it may be enabled inside your Gruntfile with this line of JavaScript:

The "encode-css-images" task
Overview
In your project's Gruntfile, add a section named encode-css-images
to the data object passed into grunt.initConfig()
.
grunt.initConfig({
encode-css-images: {
options: {
// Task-specific options go here.
},
your_target: {
// Target-specific file lists and/or options go here.
},
},
});
Options
options.imageDir
Type: String
Default value: ''
A string value that is joined to absolute image file paths.
Ex:
.myIcon { background-image: url(/images/my/icon.svg) }
grunt.initConfig({
encode-css-images: {
options: {
imageDir: 'lib/public'
},
...
Given the above, icon.svg will be looked for at lib/public/images/my/icon.svg
