Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Utils to convert css gradients to svg

Installation

from npm

npm install gradient-utils

from yarn

yarn add gradient-utils

Usage

gradient-utils/gradient-parser

parseLinearGradient

Parse css linear-gradient return LinearGradient | null

parseRepeatingLinearGradient

Parse css repeating-linear-gradient return LinearGradient | null

If the gradient is without an angle, then returns 180deg according to the specification

If the color cannot be parsed, Unknown Color will be returned

isLinearGradientWithAngle

Checks if parsed gradient is gradient with angle e.g. linear-gradient(217deg, red, green)

isLinearGradientWithSideOrCorner

Checks if parsed gradient is gradient with side or corner e.g. linear-gradient(to left, red, green)

isLinearGradientWithInterpolation

Checks if parsed gradient is gradient with interpolation e.g. linear-gradient(in hsl, blue, red)

gradient-utils/convert-css-gradient-to-svg

convertLinearGradient

Convert LinearGradient to SVGLinearGradient based on aspect ratio. If it is impossible to convert, writes a warning to the console and returns null

Does not support

  • repeatable gradient
  • interpolation gradient
  • if there are less than two colors in the gradient
  • color hint e.g. linear-gradient(red, 30%, blue);
  • color length except percentage

getSvgColor Default css to svg color converter. The named color is returned as is. (Don't check if color is supported in svg). Supports HEX, RGB, HSL colors.

gradient-utils/svg-gradient-from-css

Uses the functions described above to convert a css linear gradient to an svg gradient

Example

const cssGradient = getComputedStyle(element).getPropertyValue(propertyName)
const gradientId = 'new-gradient-id'
const converted = generateLinearGradient(cssGradient, aspectRatio)
if (converted) {
    const link = `url(#${gradientId})`
    const linearGradient = <linearGradient
        key={gradientId}
        id={gradientId}
        x1={converted.x1}
        y1={converted.y1}
        x2={converted.x2}
        y2={converted.y2}
        gradientUnits='userSpaceOnUse'
    >
        {converted.colorStops.map((stop, index) => (<stop key={index} {...stop} />))}
    </linearGradient>
}

...

<svg>
  <defs>
    {linearGradient}
  </defs>
  <rect  x="10" y="10" rx="15" ry="15" width="100" height="100" fill={link} />
</svg>
