Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

This is a fork of https://github.com/vincentsaluzzo/node-microphone.

How is it different from the original (version 1.8.0)

  • lame was updated to version 1.2.4.
  • There are some additional option keys:
    • mp3output : Same as the original mp3output
    • cmd : The command used. By default microphone use sox for mac and windows, and alsa for linux. If you want to use sox in linux, just simply use sox
    • cmdParams: Array, arguments of command specified in cmd

Dependencies

This library need

  • ALSA tools installed on the machine (sudo apt-get install alsa-utils) for Linux
  • SoX Tools installed on the machine for Windows or OSX

Usage

Simple example

A simple example which capture sound and redirect it to stdout.

var mic = require('microphone');

mic.startCapture();

mic.audioStream.on('data', function(data) {
    process.stdout.write(data);
});

API

startCapture(options)

Start the process and pipe the stdout of ALSA arecord tool to audioStream

By default, the outputing sound are PCM WAVE format, if you want a MP3 format pass true as mp3Output in the options passed in arguments.

(Example : mic.startCapture({'mp3output' : true});)

stopCapture();

Stop the process

audioStream

Give the audio stream where sound captured will be pushed

infoStream

Give an information stream which display informations printed on stderr by the process
