Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

generator-wean-easy

Yeoman Generator for an NWJS full featured project (formerly Node Webkit) Features : NWJS, AngularJS, BootStrap, Grunt, Bower, NodeJS, Express, EditorConfig, EJS (embedded javascript), JSHint, Travis CI, Mocha, etc.

It basically generates a NWJS + MEAN project.

NB IMPORTANT : this generator does not install dependencies automatically at the end of the project generation. It is much better when you have some sudo/root issues like for Mac OS X users. Instructions are provided to easily help complete the process (including specific instructions if needing sudo commands).

NB: WEAN is coined name for Webkit Express Angular Node just like MEAN by Arvind Ravulavaru .

Requirements

Installation

To install the generator:

npm install -g generator-wean-easy

You need to have node, grunt, yo and bower installed globally before running the command. Therefore download node from the link and run:

npm install -g yo grunt bower

Scaffold an application

Scaffolding a WEAN application works like every other Yeoman generator. If you have the generator installed, cd to an empty project directory and run:

yo wean-ready-to-install

Interact with Yeoman to create the application.

Install the dependencies manually after the yo project installation

The commands are :

npm install

bower install

NB: users having issues with sudo/root like MAC OS X users will probably need to run :

sudo npm install

sudo bower install --allow-root

Running

The application will scaffold completely while generating but there are chances that npm and bower installation might not be successful, probably because of unstable internet connection as npm needs to download NW.js which is > 30mb therefore the application will not run.

If such case occurs, run npm install and bower install to complete the installation. For users with sudo/root issues like Mac OS X users : sudo npm install and sudo bower install --allow-root

To run the NW application:

grunt or grunt run

Building

Another amazing feature of this generator is that you can build to all mac, windows, and linux using a simple command. If you think you app is ready for consumption, run:

grunt build:{platform}

The platform placeholder can be win, mac, linux and all. Choose all to build for all the platforms. If the parameters are not specified, it builds for the current OS.

eg:

grunt build

grunt build:mac

grunt build:win

grunt build:linux

grunt build:all

How about Icons

Yeah. Icons. Icons are very easy to setup for mac and windows. Copy the .icns and .ico version of your icon named app-icon to the root of the project before building and that is all.

Contributing

I will really appreciate any contributions to this project (no matter how little). Please use the guidelines

Thanks
