Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

generator-ng-flash Build Status

Yeoman generator for Angular 1.x powered by Webpack.

Usage

  # install yeoman and generator globally
  $ npm install -g yo generator-ng-flash

  # create an empty directory
  $ mkdir dummy && cd $_

  # invoke generator
  $ yo ng-flash

Features

The directory structure is based on John Papa's style guide with a minor addition of stylesheets being included in the module directory.

Structure:

.
├── app
│   ├── images
│   │   ├── angular.png
│   │   └── webpack.png
│   ├── index.html
│   └── src
│       ├── app.module.js
│       ├── common
│       │   ├── common.module.js
│       │   └── common.less
│       ├── core
│       │   ├── core.module.js
│       │   ├── core.less
│       │   ├── restangular.config.js
│       │   ├── router.config.js
│       │   └── router.run.js
│       └── welcome
│           ├── welcome.controller.js
│           ├── welcome.html
│           ├── welcome.module.js
│           └── welcome.less
├── LICENSE
├── package.json
└── webpack.config.js

Development:

To start development server, try:

  $ npm start

It starts a webpack-dev-server instance with hot module loading.

Linting:

  $ npm run lint

It uses eslint for linting that includes angularjs-eslint plugin that makes sure you're properly following John Papa's guidelines. Although it uses shareable configuration so things that you don't agree with can be changed.

Sub-generators:

While generator creates an app structure, sub-generators create parts of app for e.g. controller, service etc.

Controller:

Invoked by:

  $ yo ng-flash:controller dashboard.user

Creates a user.controller.js file in the dashboard module:

'use strict';

module.exports = controller;

/* @ngInject */
function controller($log) {
  var vm = this;

  vm.welcomeMessage = 'Yet another generator for angular powered by webpack.';
  vm.testFunction = testFunction;

  if (__DEV__) { // eslint-disable-line no-undef
    $log.info('Initializing controller');
  }

  function testFunction(num) {
    $log.info('This is a test function number ' + num);
  }
}

When provided with flag --with-view, it also creates a view with same name in the provided module:

  $ yo ng-flash:controller dashboard.user --with-view
Factory:

Invoked by:

  $ yo ng-flash:factory dashboard.utils

Creates a utils.factory.js in the dashboard module:

'use strict';

module.exports = factory;

/* @ngInject */
function factory($log) {
  return {
    testFunction: testFunction
  };

  function testFunction() {
    $log.info('This is a test function.');
  }
}
View:

Invoked by:

  $ yo ng-flash:view dashboard.nav

Creates a nav.html file in the dashboard module:

<div class="container">
  <p>A very empty view.</p>
</div>
Directive:

Invoked by:

  $ yo ng-flash:directive common.ui-submit

Creates a uiSubmit.directive.js file in common module:

'use strict';

module.exports = directive;

/* @ngInject */
function directive($log) {

  return {
    link: link,
    restrict: 'E',
    template: '<div></div>',
    scope: {
      test: '='
    }
  };

  function link(/*scope, elem, attrs*/) {
    if (__DEV__) { // eslint-disable-line no-undef
      $log.info('Initializing directive');
    }
  }
}
Filter:

Invoked by:

  $ yo ng-flash:filter common.currency

Creates a currency.filter.js file in the common module:

'use strict';

module.exports = filter;

/* @ngInject */
function filter() {
  return function (input) {
    return 'currency filter: ' + input;
  };
}
Constant:

Invoked by:

  $ yo ng-flash:constant common.http-codes

Creates a httpCodes.constant.js file in the common module:

'use strict';

module.exports = {
  ConstantKey: 'CONSTANTVALUE'
};
Value:

Invoked by:

  $ yo ng-flash:value common.messages

Creates a messages.value.js file in the common module:

'use strict';

module.exports = {
  key: 'value'
};

Production:

To create a build:

  $ npm run build
