Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Generate Social Sharing Link CLI

oclif Version Downloads/week License

This is a CLI for generating URLs for sharing content on social media. If you need to add social media sharing links to your website, you can easily generate them though this simple command line tool. Currently supports:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn

How it works

If you have a piece of content that you want to allow users of your website to share on social media, e.g. https://towardsdatascience.com/hidden-features-of-chrome-devtools-33d9de390dc0

Step 1:

Run

$ npm install -g generate-social-sharing-link

Step 2:

  • Select a social media platform
  • Enter the URL of content you want to share
  • Enter any supporting text (only Twitter supports this currently)

Setting Facebook App ID

In order to generate the Facebook link, you will need to create and set a Facebook App ID. to do this, follow these steps:

Step 1:

Go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps/ and click Create App. Once you've created it, copy the App ID.

Step 2:

In the command line run the following command, but replacing 12345 with the copied app ID.

Linux:

export FACEBOOK_APP_ID=12345

Windows:

set FACEBOOK_APP_ID=12345

Please note that this may not persist in your work space.

Step 3:

Test by generateing the Facebook link and looking for the app ID in the URL.
