Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

gatsby-theme-testimonials

This is Gatsby theme to add customer testimonials to your website. The testimonial cards are exported as a section to just insert into your JSX. You add the data to be displayed via json files located in a testimonials folder at your projects root. This file will be created for you when you install the theme if you don't add it yourself.

The default styling is neumorphism, this can be overriden by shadowing the TestimonialCard component.

Example of how this looks in practice: https://gatsby-theme-testimonials.netlify.com/

Setup

Install the theme with either yarn yarn add gatsby-theme-testimonials or npm npm i gatsby-theme-testimonials

Add it to your gatsby-config.js

module.exports = {
    plugins: [
        'gatsby-theme-testimonials'
    ]
}

The testimonials folder will be created at your projects root on first run, but otherwise you can create that folder.

The expected json format for each file is like this:

{
    "name": "Carol Danvers",
    "company": "Marveless Wordpress",
    "blurb": "I’ve been fighting with one arm tied behind my back, but what happens when I’m finally set free?",
    "twitter": "https://twitter.com/studio_hungry",
    "linkedIn": "https://www.linkedin.com/in/richard-haines-578464176/"
}

The naming of the file is up to you, i suggest naming them after the author of the testimonial.

The twitter and linkedIn links can be skipped if none are supplied by the testimonial author, the cards will render both, one or none depending on if you set them in the json file.

Import the TestimonialSection from the theme and insert it anywhere in your JSX

import React from 'react';
import {TestimonialSection} from 'gatsby-theme-testimonials';

export default () => (
    <section>
        Some section of your website
    </section>
      <TestimonialSection/>
    <section>
        Some other section of your website
    </section>
);
