Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

File-Log-Manager

file-log-manager is a customizable, easy-to-use logging utility for Node.js applications. This utility is designed to allow dynamic path configurations for logs, ensuring that your logging structure is as flexible as needed for various environments and scenarios.

Features

  • Configurable Path for Logs: You can specify a custom path for log directories, facilitating integration into diverse environments or complex file hierarchies.
  • Automatic Directory and File Creation: Automatically organizes logs into directories and files based on custom log names and the current date.
  • Timestamped Logs: Each log entry is prepended with a precise timestamp, making it easy to track events chronologically.
  • Simple API: Easy to set up and use, with minimal configuration needed to start logging messages.

Installation

Install the package using npm:

npm install file-log-manager

Configuration

Here's how to integrate file-log-manager into your Node.js application and configure it:

  • Require the Module:
const path = require('path');
const fileLogManager = require('file-log-manager');
  • Configure and Use the Logger:
const logger = fileLogManager({
  path: path.join(__dirname, '../logs'), // Customizable log directory path
});

// Example log entries
logger('server', 'Server is up and running.');
logger('database', 'Database connection established.');
logger('auth', 'User logged in successfully.');
logger('errors', 'Failed to fetch user data.');

How It Works

file-log-manager is designed to provide a flexible logging solution with the following functionalities:

  • Directory Management: Creates a directory named after the specified log category inside the configured logs folder.
  • File Naming: Generates a log file named with the current date (formatted as YYYY-MM-DD.log).
  • Message Formatting: Adds a timestamp to each log message for a precise record of when events occur.
  • Appending Logs: Writes and appends log messages to the specified file, creating it if it doesn't exist.
