Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

fastcolor

Color class 2~4x faster than @ctrl/cinycolor. Can be a drop-in replacement for @ctrl/tinycolor, with the follwing differences:

  • Don't support CSS color names, like 'darkgreen', 'orange'. This helps reduce bundle size.
  • Don't support CMYK as input and output formats (almost no use case in web apps). This helps reduce bundle size and improve performance.
npm install --save fastcolor

Constructor

import { FastColor } from 'fastcolor';

new FastColor('#6cf');
new FastColor('#66ccff');
new FastColor('#66ccff88');
new FastColor('rgba(102, 204, 255)');
new FastColor('rgba(102, 204, 255, .5)');
new FastColor('hsl(200, 60%, 75%)');
new FastColor('hsla(200, 60%, 75%, 50%)');
new FastColor({ r: 103, g: 204, b: 255, a: 0.5 });
new FastColor({ h: 200, s: 0.6, l: 0.75 });

Clone

import { FastColor } from 'fastcolor';

const color1 = new FastColor('#66ccff');
const color2 = color1.clone();
// you can also do
const color3 = new FastColor(color2);

Brightness

Returns the perceived brightness of the color, between 0 and 255. See http://www.w3.org/TR/AERT#color-contrast

If brightness is less than 128, the color is dark. Otherwise, it is light color.

import { FastColor } from 'fastcolor';

const color = new FastColor('#66ccff');
color.getBrightness();
// 179.316
color.isDark();
// false
color.isLight();
// true

import { FastColor } from 'fastcolor';

color.getLightness();
// 0.697265625
color.darken(10);
color.lighten(5);

Alpha

Lightness value between 0 and 1.

import { FastColor } from 'fastcolor';

const color = new FastColor('#66ccff');
color.setAlpha(0.67);

onBackground

import { FastColor } from 'fastcolor';

const color = new FastColor('#66ccffaa');
const background = new FastColor('#000000');
const mixed = color.onBackground(background);
// rgb(68,136,170)
