Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Express Route Fake

Express route fake is a small library for faking common express router verbs (get, put, post, delete) and capturing their action functions for ease of testing. This module is intended for use with the Mockery library and does not perform any node cache manipultion on its own.

This module was originally created as a proof of concept for a blog post, so it was pulled from hastily written source. All behavior will be wrapped in tests before release version 1.0.0 is made available. Until that point, unexpected behavior may occur from time to time without notice.

Basic Info

Installation: npm install express-route-fake --save-dev

Use:

'use strict';'

var expressRouteFake = require('express-route-fake');
var mockery = require('mockery');

// Example uses Mocha syntax
describe('My test suite', function () {

    var myRouteModule;

    beforeEach(function () {
        mockery.resetCache();
        expressRouteFake.reset();

        mockery.enable({
            warnOnReplace: false,
            warnOnUnregistered: false
        });

        // Registering as a mock gives direct access to stored values in expressRouteFake module
        mockery.registerMock('express', expressRouteFake);
        myRouteModule = require('../routes/myRouteModule');
    });

    afterEach(function () {
        mockery.deregisterAll();
        mockery.disable();
    });

});

Testing a simple get action:

it('should perform expected behavior', function () {
    var action = expressRouteFake.getRouteAction('get', '/route/path');
    var status = 0;

    var req = {};
    var res = { status: function (statusCode) { status = statusCode; } };

    action(req, res);

    assert(status === 200);
});

API

expressRouteFake()

  • Returns object with render function attached
  • Render function captures all arguments passed per call

expressRouteFake.Router()

  • Returns a fake router object
  • Attached functions are get, put, post, delete
  • All http verbs capture path and action function as key/value pair

expressRouteFake.reset()

  • Resets expressRouteFake back to initial state

expressRouteFake.getRouteAction()

  • Endpoint contract: expressRouteFake.getRouteAction(httpVerb:String, routePath:String): Function
  • Throws error if path does not exist for provided httpVerb

expressRouteFake.renderData.call()

  • Endpoint contract: expressRouteFake.renderData.call(index:Int): Array
  • Returned array is an array of all arguments passed at indexed call
