Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

eslint-plugin-goodeggs

A shared ESLint plugin and configurations used by Good Eggs projects.

Installation

  1. Install the plugin via yarn add --dev eslint-plugin-goodeggs

  2. Install all of the peer dependencies listed in package.json#peerDependencies, making sure you satisfy the peer dependencies fully by using the specified package version ranges.

  3. Create an ESLint configuration file at .eslintrc.js:

module.exports = {
  extends: ['plugin:goodeggs/recommended'],
};

If your project uses Jest or Mocha, or is written in TypeScript, you'll want to add additional presets to the extends array. See src/config/index.js for a full list of configurations.

  1. Install our shared Prettier configuration via yarn add --dev @goodeggs/prettier-config and create a Prettier configuration file at .prettierrc.js
module.exports = require('@goodeggs/prettier-config');
  1. Add linting scripts to your project's package.json:
"scripts": {
  "lint": "yarn run lint:base .",
  "lint:base": "eslint --ext .js,.jsx,.ts,.tsx --cache --report-unused-disable-directives",
  "lint:fix": "yarn run lint:fix:base .",
  "lint:fix:base": "yarn run lint:base --fix"
}

Editor Plugins

You'll likely want to enable an ESLint editor integration for your editor so your code is automatically formatted on save.

Use With lint-staged

Consider using this setup in conjunction with lint-staged and husky to ensure that linting is run on staged files prior to commit.

For example, the following configuration files will run lint and fix any fixable errors prior to commit:

// lint-staged.config.js
module.exports = {
  '*.{js,jsx,ts,tsx}': 'yarn run lint:fix:base',
};

// .huskyrc.js
module.exports = {
  hooks: {
    'pre-commit': 'lint-staged',
  },
};

Releasing

To release a new version of this module, use yarn to bump the version in package.json and create a git tag, then push. This will automatically get published to the NPM registry via CI.

yarn version --new-version=<major|minor|patch|premajor|preminor|prepatch>
git push --follow-tags
