Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

mdl-selectfield

Material Design Lite selectfield component (https://github.com/google/material-design-lite)

This is a fork of mebibou/mdl-selectfield patched to work with encapsulated-mdl.

Install

npm install encapsulated-mdl-selectfield --save

Build

A new build:encap gulp task is introduced for building to build encapsulated production files

The task accepts:

  • -v [VENDOR_NAME] parameter, default "Google"
  • -p [PREFIX] parameter, default is mdl
  • -d [DEPENDENCY] parameter, to be injected into the module, default is "encapsulated-mdl".
  • MDL is encapsulated inside window[vendor].mdl or exposed as cjs/amd module
  • If cjs/amd is not available, the global window[VENDOR_NAME].mdl.componentHandler is expected.

Below is the original README. Usage remains the same.

<link rel="stylesheet" href="./bower_components/mdl-selectfield/dist/mdl-selectfield.min.css">
...
<script src="./bower_components/mdl-selectfield/dist/mdl-selectfield.min.js"></script>

Basic use

To use any MDL component, you must include the minified CSS and JavaScript files using standard relative-path references in the <head> section of the page, as described in the MDL Introduction.

To include a MDL select field component:

 1. Code a <div> element to hold the text field.

<div>
...
</div>

 2. Inside the div, code an <select> element, add the options and add an id attribute of your choice.

<div>
  <select id="gender">
    <option value=""></option>
    <option value="male">Male</option>
    <option value="female">Female</option>
  </select>
</div>

 3. Also inside the div, after the select field, code a <label> element with a for attribute whose value matches the select element's id value, and a short string to be used as the field's placeholder text.

<div>
  <select id="gender">
    <option value=""></option>
    <option value="option1">option 1</option>
    <option value="option2">option 2</option>
  </select>
  <label for="gender">User gender</label>
</div>

 4. Add one or more MDL classes, separated by spaces, to the div container, select field, select label, and error message using the class attribute.

<div class="mdl-selectfield mdl-js-selectfield">
  <select id="gender" class="mdl-selectfield__select">
    <option value=""></option>
    <option value="option1">option 1</option>
    <option value="option2">option 2</option>
  </select>
  <label class="mdl-selectfield__label" for="gender">User gender</label>
  <span class="mdl-selectfield__error">Select a value</span>
</div>

The select field component is ready for use.
