Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ember-concurrency-ajax

Build Status

ember-concurrency-ajax provides a service for you to manage your ajax requests. You can also trigger ajax request via helpers.

The addon is backed by ember-concurrency, a generator function based task scheduler.

Usage

Send request in controllers

//controller.js

export default Controller.extend({
  ecajax: Ember.inject.service(),

  slice: task(function* (beef) {
    console.log('slicing beef');
    return beef;
  }),

  pack: task(function* (beef) {
    console.log('packing beef');
  }),

  actions: {
    request() {
      let ecajax = this.get('ecajax');

      // every request returns a TaskInstance
      let beef = ecajax.request('/api/v1/beef').catch(err => console.log('error!;));

      // concat the taskInstances and tasks
      ecajax.concat(beef, slice, pack);
    }
  }
})

or

Send request in templates (It's working well with ember-composable-helpers)

<button onclick={{pipe
      (request '/test.json')
      (action 'process')
    }}>
  request: default
</button>

Create Tasks

You can create task with a task name and an optional concurrency policy. Here is the API.

import Ember from 'ember';

export default Ember.Controller.extend({
  ecajax: Ember.inject.service(),

  init() {
    this._super(...arguments);
    let ecajax = this.get('ecajax');
    ecajax.createTask({ name: 'custom', policy: 'restartable' });
  }
});

Send Requests

Sending ajax is straight forward. In normal case, you don't have to worry about creating task. It has a built-in task for normal ajax requests.

import Ember from 'ember';

export default Ember.Controller.extend({
  ecajax: inject.service(),

  actions:{
    request() {
      let ecajax = this.get('ecajax');
      let ajaxOptions = {}; // the jquery ajax options

      // returns a taskInstance
      ecajax.request('/api/v1/foo', ajaxOptions);
    }
  }
});

Cancel Tasks

You can use ember-concurrency's cancel-all helper to cancel your tasks. get-task is a helper to get the task in the service.

<button
  onclick={{cancel-all (get-task 'mytask')}}>
  cancel
</button>

Show Running Status

{{#with (get-task 'mytask') as |task|}}
  {{#if task.isRunning}}
    Loading...
  {{else}}
    task.last.value
  {{/if}}
{{/with}}

API

ecajax service

  • request(url, options, name) Send ajax request.
    • url: The URL to access
    • options: settings for jQuery ajax
    • name: task name
  • task(name) Get concurrency task by task name.
    • name: the task name in service
  • createTask(options) create concurrency task
    • options.name: task name
    • options.policy (optional): concurrency policy - restartable drop enqueue keepLast or empty
    • options.maxConcurrency (optional): max concurrency for the task

helpers

  • request

Request with the URL and task name (optional), and you can pass in jQuery options as well.

<button onclick=(request '/api/v1/foo' options name='mytask')>
  request
</button>
  • get-task

Get the task with a name in the service.

<button
  onclick={{cancel-all (get-task 'mytask')}}>
  cancel mytask
</button>

utils

  • concatTasks

Concatenate Task or TaskInstance in a row.

import Ember from 'ember';
import { task } from 'ember-concurrency';
import { concatTasks } from 'ember-concurrency-ajax/utils';

export default Ember.Controller.extend({
  ecajax: inject.service(),
  tasks: computed.alias('ecajax.tasks'),
  result: Ember.A(),
  concatTasks: concatTasks,

  slice: task(function* (val) {
    yield console.log('slicing beef', val);
    return val;
  }),

  pack: task(function* (val) {
    yield console.log('packing beef', val);
  }),

  init() {
    this._super(...arguments);
    let ecajax = this.get('ecajax');

    this.get('concatTasks').perform(
      ecajax.request('/beef.json'),
      this.get('slice'),
      this.get('pack')
    );
  },
});
