Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

doors

Use doors to represent asynchronous operations depending on multiple conditions. Imagine a door with multiple locks, you can not open the door until all locks are unlocked and one lock is enough for the door to be closed.

Check it out online!

Usage

A door is either opened or closed. The transition from one state to an other depends on conditions called "locks".

const Doors = require('doors')

// create a promise that will resolve only once hello and world are unlocked
const promise = new Doors(door => {
  door.unlock('hello')
  setTimeout(() => {
    door.unlock('world')
  }, 2000)
}, 'hello world')

At the opposite of a promise, the transition from open to close is not immutable (see below) and a door can oscillate between those 2 states. For example, this module has been used in production to represent database connection hang up with automatic retry.

Api

const doors = require('doors')

// initialize door with one lock
const door = doors('lock1')

// listen when door opens
door.on('open', () => console.log('do something when no lock'))
// listen when door closes
door.on('close', () => console.log('do something when at least one lock'))

door.on('unlock lock1', () => console.log('do something when lock1 is unlocked'))
door.on('unlock lock2', () => console.log('do something when lock1 is locked'))

// is lock1 unlocked?
door.knock('lock1')
// => false
door.unlock('lock1')

// lock lock1 againi
door.lock('lock1')

A transition may depend on multiple locks.

const door = doors('lock1 lock2 lock3')
door.unlock('lock3 lock1')
door.knock('lock2 lock1')
// => false
door.knock('lock3 lock1')
// => true

// unlock lock2 after 1 second
door.unlock('lock2', new Promise(resolve => {
  setTimeout(resolve, 1000)
}))

// door is opened
door.knock()
// => true

Immutable computations can be created from door locks.

// create a promise that is fulfilled when door opens
door.promise().then(
  () => console.log('door is opened'),
  () => console.log('door is closed')
)

// create a promise that is fulfilled when lock1 is unlocked
door.promise('lock1').then(
  () => console.log('lock1 unlock'),
  () => console.log('lock1 lock')
)

// create a promise that is fulfilled when lock1 and lock3 are unlocked
door.promise('lock1 lock3').then(
  () => console.log('both lock1 and lock3 unlock'),
  () => console.log('both lock1 and lock3 lock')
)

Installation
