Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

dom-plus

PRO DOM Generator

Very simple DOM generator with types declaration.

Why?

  • [x] 🤯 Vanilla JS, no framework required!
  • [x] 😏 No more document.createElement and element.appendChild!
  • [x] 🤫 Even no element.addEventListener!
  • [x] 🤩 Modify existing Element instance!
  • [x] 😍 Fricking tiny size: 0 dependencies, 0 configuration, 0 problems! dist/index.js 2.46 kB │ gzip: 0.96 kB │ map: 13.62 kB

Installation

From NPM

# Via npm
npm install dom-plus
# Or pnpm
pnpm add dom-plus
# Yarn? sure
yarn add dom-plus

Then import it to your project.

// ESM
import { h } from 'dom-plus'
// CJS
const { h } = require('dom-plus')

In browser

<script src="https://unpkg.com/dom-plus"></script>
<script>
  const { h } = window.DOMPlus
  // ...
</script>

Or... Why not ESM?

import { h } from 'https://unpkg.com/dom-plus?module'
// ...

Usage

General usage

// step-1  - create element
const block = h('div', { class: 'foo', style: 'color: red' }, [
  h('span', 'bar'),
  'baz',
])
// step-2? - no more steps! It works as you expect!
console.info(block.outerHTML) // <div class="foo"><span>bar</span>baz</div>

CSS styles

Why not use CSS styles as an object?

const redBlock = h('div', { style: { color: 'red' } }, 'Hey, I am red!')
  .$css({
    backgroundColor: 'black',
  })
  .$css('font-size', '2em')

It's working! Even with the types!

Class names

const block = h('div', { class: ['foo', 'bar'] }, 'Hey, I have classes!')
  .$addClass('baz')
  .$removeClass('foo')

Needless to say, it's working too!!

Event listeners

const button = h(
  'button',
  {
    onClick: () => {
      alert('Hello, world!')
    },
  },
  'Click me!'
)
const stop = button.$on('click', (e) => {
  e.preventDefault()
  e.stopPropagation()
  alert('This alert will be shown only once!')
  stop()
})

IT JUST WORKS!!!

Pass through Element as first argument

So you can modify the element.

// From: <div id="some-element">Blah</div>
const block = h(
  document.querySelector('#some-element'),
  { class: 'foo' },
  'Hey, I am a block!'
)
block.$css('color', 'red').$addClass('bar')
// To: <div id="some-element" class="foo bar" style="color: red;">Hey, I am a block!</div>

Why are you still reading this?!! Just try it!!!!!
