For Discovery Channel, the 20th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing was the perfect time to celebrate the life and achievements of astronaut Neil Armstrong. Events surrounding the upcoming 50th anniversary of the moon landing push us to reflect on his achievements. What did Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the Moon, teach the rest of us? How would the world have changed if Armstrong had never existed? With the release of a new book on Armstrong, penned by the intrepid filmmaker Christopher Nolan, based on the dramatic and moving collection of images taken by Armstrong, all eyes are on him again and his life story. Discovery Channel will celebrate his life and to mark the occasion, will air a special clip from the film One Giant Leap: A Neil Armstrong Tribute, a feature-length documentary about the astronaut that will take you on his amazing journey.
On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the moon. In celebration of this historic event and to mark the 50th anniversary, Discovery Channel is honoring the life of one of our greatest astronauts by premiering a six-part series about Neil Armstrong. The full-length documentary, titled ONE GIANT LEAP: A NEIL ARMSTRONG TRIBUTE, will air exclusively on the Discovery Channel in the US. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Discovery Channel, in collaboration with StarTrek.com, will premiere a special event on their websites, Facebook pages and social media channels called ONE GIANT LEAP: A NEIL ARMSTRONG TRIBUTE, featuring footage from Neil Armstrong's last public appearance. Guests will include crewmates Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, along with many other astronauts, authors, actors and astronauts. The documentary, co-produced by the Discovery Channel, takes viewers on a personal journey with Armstrong, and will include footage from his NASA training, his moon walk, his splashdown and of course the famous words, "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." From the making of the documentary to a behind-the-scenes look at Armstrong's future as he begins teaching a new generation of astronauts, ONE GIANT LEAP: A NEIL ARMSTRONG TRIBUTE will include exclusive interviews and never-before-seen footage.
