Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

DatoCMS Commerce Layer plugin

A plugin that allows users to search and select Commerce Layer SKUs.

App credentials (Commerce Layer)

To use this plugin first you need to create a Commerce Layer OAuth application and take note of its credentials. If you don't have a Commerce Layer account you can sign up for free here and follow the onboarding tutorial to create an organization and seed it with test data. Once successfully signed in to the Commerce Layer admin dashboard, go into your organization's Integrations section and create a new integration app with role Read only:

New application

Now you can access the application's base endpoint, client ID, and client secret:

BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY — Please note that if you are upgrading from a previous version (older than v2.0.0) you need to change your plugin settings to use an integration app because old datocms Commerce Layer apps have been dismissed and don't work with the new versions of the plugin.

Plugin configuration (DatoCMS)

You can search the plugin from the DatoCMS admin dashboard or install it from the marketplace. Once installed, you need to configure the plugin with the credentials you get from Commerce Layer app you previously created:

Plugin settings

You can either hook this plugin manually to your single-line fields, or specify an identifier and use it to create an automatic match rule (e.g. via regex).

Usage

To use the plugin you need to add a single-line text field to your model in DatoCMS and select Commerce Layer SKU from the dropdown menu in the Presentation tab:

Field type Field settings Field presentation

Now you can browse your Commerce Layer organization SKUs, search and select them from the UI. You can also create and add new SKUs by clicking the button that redirects to Commerce Layer admin dashboard:

SKU search SKU selection

The selected SKU's main information will then show in the related record:
