Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

cypress-wait-for-stable-dom

Wait until the DOM is stable before continuing with test. Useful for visual regression testing.

Uses Mutation Observer to detect DOM changes.

This repo was bootstraped from bahmutov/cypress-get-by-label and has logic based on the same author's (Gleb Bahmutov) article.

Install

npm i -D cypress-wait-for-stable-dom
# or
yarn add -D cypress-wait-for-stable-dom

Use

Include from your Cypress support file or individual spec

const { registerCommand } = require('cypress-wait-for-stable-dom')
registerCommand()

// or
import { registerCommand } from 'cypress-wait-for-stable-dom'
registerCommand()

Then use the command cy.waitForStableDOM()

// Proceed with test if DOM is stable for 1 second
// Throw timeout error if DOM is unstable for 10 seconds
cy.waitForStableDOM({ pollInterval: 1000, timeout: 10000 })

When used as a parent command (like above), it will check for changes in the entire document. To only check a particular part of the DOM, use it as a child command.

// Only listen for changes to #myDomElement
cy.get('#myDomElement')
  .waitForStableDOM({ pollInterval: 1000, timeout: 10000 })

If you'd like to customize the options passed to mutation observer, you can provide an optional mutationObserver property.

const mutationObserver = {
  // Only listen to CSS changes
  attributeFilter: [ "style", "class" ],
  subtree: true,
  childList: true,
  attributes: true,
  attributeOldValue: true,
}

cy.waitForStableDOM({ pollInterval: 1000, timeout: 10000, mutationObserver })

The argument you provide to cy.waitForStableDOM will be deep merged with the following default object

const defaultOptions = {
  pollInterval: 1000,
  timeout: 10000,
  mutationObserver: {
    subtree: true,
    childList: true,
    attributes: true,
    attributeOldValue: true,
    characterData: true,
    characterDataOldValue: true,
  },
};

You can change what the default object is by specifying it as the argument to registerCommand

const { registerCommand } = require('cypress-wait-for-stable-dom')
registerCommand({ pollInterval: 300, timeout: 2000 })

// or
import { registerCommand } from 'cypress-wait-for-stable-dom'
registerCommand({ pollInterval: 300, timeout: 2000 })

Types

To get IntelliSense working with the custom command cy.waitForStableDOM include in your specs

/// <reference types="cypress-wait-for-stable-dom" />
