Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Sci-fi films tend to get very serious very quickly, but Cyborg 2 takes a much more light-hearted and playful approach in this pursuit of AI. It's very much in the mood of other weird and wonderful sci-fi films like The Man Who Fell to Earth or The 5th Element, with many settings - one solid storm of sparks on a desert planet, another underwater world with bizarre aquatic life and giant squid, a computer whiz's office in the basement of the ubiquitous Pinwheel Corporation, and so on.

To escape Pinwheel and their program to re-engineer the human race into their own users, the trio help the enigmatic rebel Mercy, who doesn't speak English, escape from the company (she speaks with a mangled cyborg voice); help stop the headless villains from creating a new Pinwheel-produced world menace, the evil Malik; outwit a robot thief named Snoop (who steals data-storage disks containing the identities of all the world's cyborgs), and lose their way to the free-zone, which is located at the "end of the world."

If you're expecting serious policy or philosophical revelations or big ideas from Cyborg 2, think again. While this story offers plenty of voyeurism-fuelled action, character development and mystery (the main mystery at the film's very start involving Cash, who keeps disappearing), it's hardly a challenging examination of the issues of robotics, but rather a futuristic drama with a few laughs and colorful characters. The best thing about it is the production design, which is much more interesting than the usual "dreary brown" sci-fi imagery. It's not so one-dimensional that it looks like a normal sci-fi flick, but it's some kind of futuristic cyber-speakeasy dressed up to look like a generic B-movie with its neon lights, decaying browns, crowded apartment buildings, cheap brown suits, and rain-filled streets. The writing - mostly by a Japanese author named Juzo Itami - is simple, but at times funny. Although the script is pretty much plot driven, there are a few moments where the silliness of the dialogue cuts through the future drama (as well as a few kung-fu dialogue bits, too). 84d34552a1
