In the version I'm using at the moment, due to its lack of dictionaries, the cultural elements that are typical of such stories are translated using expressions as they exist in English-speaking culture and are often quite different from those to be found in actual Cakchiquel. In other words, they may not always be realistic. I intend to revise it in the future once the Kaqchikel Academy has more accurate dictionaries available.


In 2004, the Kenstitras family, of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, founded a publishing house called L'annee des indianistes (The Year of the Indians). In a short booklet entitled Cuentos y leyendas de Kaqchiquel, they produced a collection of stories told in Kaqchikel. The stories are still told in Kaqchikel, but, lacking phonetic transcription, the main image accompanying the text is often of a cartoon Kaqchikel text.


The Archivo de los Cuentos (Archive of Stories) in Guatemala also has a collection of traditional Cakchiquel stories. This collection, unlike the Haitian stories, was compiled using both written transcriptions and phonetic transcriptions, so the orthography is not as uniform as the Haitian stories.
