Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Find Core modules in a package

This package helps you find the core modules used by a node package. It gives a Green Flag if the package or it's dependency doesn't use a single core module of node.

Currently, this script only runs for OSX.

Usage

Node Script:

To use this utility package,

npm run check <package-name>

this commad logs it to the default_logger.log file

If user wants to log to a custom log file

npm run check <package-name> --log-file <filename>

Bash Script ( for OSX users)

Note: Please install the dependency: ag aka the-silver-searcher before running the script

./findCoreModules.sh <package-name> [--rmlog]

The optional --rmlog flag removes the log file after execution if the user doesn't need it.

Example:

$ ./findCoreModules.sh clearblade

+ [email protected]
added 118 packages in 4.894s
Creating a temporary directory and a log file, the core modules will be listed here log_f931da8f79fc354127a21164a10a95a6.txt, if there are any
Currently checking for these core modules of node:

net fs async_hooks assert buffer child_process console constants crypto cluster dgram dns domain events fs http http2 https inspector module net os path perf_hooks process punycode querystring readline repl stream string_decoder sys timers tls tty url util v8 vm zlib

Red Flag - has few core modules, check log_f931da8f79fc354127a21164a10a95a6.txt

Contents of the log file look like:

duplexify/test.js:4:var net = require('net')
forever-agent/index.js:6: , net = require('net')
mqtt/mqtt.js:15: net = require('net')
...
