Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

cordova-plugin-inappbrowser-wkwebview

  • This is a fork of cordova-plugin-inappbrowser
  • It uses the the newer WKWebview to power the InAppBrowser, in contrast to cordova-plugin-inappbrowser which still currently uses the legacy UIWebView.
  • Only the iOS platform has been changed from the original cordova-plugin-inappbrowser.
  • The plugin supports iOS 9 and above
    • While WKWebView was introduced in iOS 8, it contained critical bugs making it effectively unusable for Cordova-based apps

Some advantages of using WKWebView over UIWebView include:

  • Performance: graphic-intensive operations such as WebGL run much faster and more efficiently in WKWebView.
  • Stability: WKWebView has many improvements which leads to up to 70% less crashes.
  • Shared cookies: setting a cookie in an IAB window makes it available in the main Cordova Webview and vice-versa. This is especially useful for cookies that store authentication credentials since they will be preserved between IAB sessions.

Installation

cordova plugin add cordova-plugin-inappbrowser-wkwebview
cordova plugin add cordova-plugin-wkwebview-engine
  • This plugin depends on cordova-plugin-wkwebview-engine which adds WKWebView support to Cordova.
  • You need to add this (or a variant) manually to your project
  • This means the main Cordova app Webview will also use WKWebView on iOS 9+.

Example app

cordova-plugin-inappbrowser-wkwebview-test contains a Cordova project which builds an iOS test app to validate/illustrate usage of this plugin.

Related plugin

cordova-plugin-inappbrowser-popup-bridge is an extension of this plugin which adds support for Braintree's PopupBridge libraries for Android and iOS to support PayPal payments within the context of the InappBrowser element of a Cordova-based app.

Plugin usage and API

The plugin API is identical to cordova-plugin-inappbrowser.
