Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

cordova-plugin-aframe

This plugin adds A-Frame support to your Cordova application!

Hello WebVR

Installation

cordova plugin add cordova-plugin-aframe
cordova prepare

Usage

A sample A-Frame demo looks like this:

<a-scene renderer="antialias: true" background="color: #FAFAFA">
  <a-box position="-1 0.5 -3" rotation="0 45 0" color="#4CC3D9" shadow></a-box>
  <a-sphere
    position="0 1.25 -5"
    radius="1.25"
    color="#EF2D5E"
    shadow
  ></a-sphere>
  <a-cylinder
    position="1 0.75 -3"
    radius="0.5"
    height="1.5"
    color="#FFC65D"
    shadow
  ></a-cylinder>
  <a-plane
    position="0 0 -4"
    rotation="-90 0 0"
    width="4"
    height="4"
    color="#7BC8A4"
    shadow
  ></a-plane>
</a-scene>

To get that working in Cordova, there are a few important steps.

  1. Wrap your scene in a <script> tag
  2. Add a <div class="cordova-aframe-root" ...> tag (special CSS applies)
  3. Inject your scene in Cordova's deviceready event

Example:

  <head>
    <script id="aframe_scene" type="text/html">
        ...your scene, like above
    </script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
        document.addEventListener('deviceready', function() {
            var aframe_scene = document.getElementById('aframe_scene').innerHTML
            document.getElementById('aframe_root').innerHTML = aframe_scene
        })
    </script>
  </head>
  <body >
    <div class="cordova-aframe-root" id="aframe_root"></div>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="cordova.js"></script>
  </body>
</html>

Step 1: Wrap the scene in a tag

Discussion

Although A-Frame is a pure JS library, there are some additional steps needed to ensure compatibility with a Cordova app. Notably:

  • Support for XHR requests to file:// endpoints
  • CSS overrides

Because of these factors, I thought it better to provide a first-class Cordova plugin that took care of all the details.

Thanks

Special thanks to A-Frame author and maintainer Diego Marcos for helping to work through all the changes needed and allowing a few modifications into the A-Frame core
