Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

buffer-string-decoder

This pacage was designed for decoding result of fs.readFile in Node.js backend, and it was updated to version 1.0.1 . The file that you pass to decoder must be a Json file and the data in it must be in Json format.

Note! It is updated version 1.0.1 and it may still contain bugs

[For any issues about package click here](https://github.com/pnevmat/buffer-string-decoder/discussions/8)

Installation

npm install buffer-string-decoder

Usage

If you use fs.readFile:

const bufferStringDecoder = require('buffer-string-decoder');

const db = fs.readFile(
 'file/path/db.json',
 'utf8',
 (err) => {
  if (err) {
   return err.message
  }
 }
);

const decodedBuffer = bufferStringDecoder(db);

If you need for some reason to make buffer from js object, then use it like this:

const bufferStringDecoder = require('buffer-string-decoder');

const array = ['some value', 'some value', 'another value'];

const buffer = Buffer.from(JSON.stringify(array), 'utf-8');

const stringBuffer = buffer.toString();

const decodedBuffer = bufferStringDecoder(stringBuffer);

As for now it resolves:

Simple objects like this:

{
 id: 'some id',
 someProperty: 'some value',
 anotherProperty: 'another value'
}

Simple arrays like this:

[
 'some value',
 'another value',
 '123'
]

Note! Pass numbers to simple array only as string, other way decoder will work not correctly.

Arrays of object like this:

const array = [
 {
  id: 'ffrf',
  userName: 'Some user name',
  friends: [
   {
    id: 'hfg',
    userName: 'some user name',
   },
   {
    id: 'kdd',
    userName: 'some user name',
   },
  ]
 }
];

And more complicated arrays of objects like this in all variations:

const array = [
 {
  id: 'ffrf',
  userName: 'some user name',
  fullName: 'Some Full Name',
  lastLogin: 'Fri March 15 2022',
  friends: [
   {
    id: 'hfg',
    userName: 'some user name',
    fullName: 'Some Full Name',
    lastLogin: 'Fri March 15 2022',
   },
   {
    id: 'kdd',
    userName: 'some user name',
    fullName: 'Some Full Name',
    lastLogin: 'Fri March 15 2022',
   },
  ],
  activities: [
   {
    id: 'fbpl',
    activityName: 'Football',
    achievements: '1st place on university tournament',
   },
   {
    id: 'votp',
    activityName: 'voleiball',
    achievements: 'took part in university competitions',
   },
  ],
	autorisation: {
   login: 'some login',
   password: 'some password',
   someProperty: [
    {
     id: 'votp',
     activityName: 'voleiball',
     achievements: [
      'took part in school competitions',
      'took part in university competitions',
     ],
    },
    {
     id: 'fbpl',
     achievements: [
      'took part in school competitions',
      '1st place on university tournament',
      'took part in student national tournament',
     ],
     activityName: 'Football',
    },
   ],
  },
 },
];
