She doesnt know its connected to her new boyfriend, and doesnt know if shell have to answer for his actions, but that risk, according to Carlile, is where these songs come from. The Land is a livelier story, with all the good times of the past gone wrong. Its a tale of superstition, sexual rutting and the deep blue sea. If you believe the lyrics, then a wave will come and take your house and death will release the blood of the righteous.
