Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

BookingManager

Overview

The Booking Manager module provides a flexible and reusable system for managing bookings, customers, and products. It is designed to be easily integrated with the a storage solution like MongoDB, enabling developers to add booking functionality to their applications.

Whether you're building an app for small businesses, appointment scheduling, or event management, this module provides a robust and adaptable backend for booking management.

Imagine you’re building an appointment booking system for a small business, like a dive center or a yoga studio. You need a flexible solution to manage bookings for various services, keep track of customers, and ensure smooth bookings. The Booking Manager module provides exactly that.

With just a few lines of code, you can integrate a fully functional booking system into your application. Whether you’re managing time slots for multiple staff members or handling inventory for products and services, this module allows you to focus on building the user experience while leaving the backend booking management to the module.

Example of use

For users

Installtion

To install the module run: npm install booking-manager-module

How to use the module

Configure Storage

The module is designed to work with different storage backends. By default, we provide a StorageInterface class that can be integrated with MongoDB or other solutions.

How to Start the Module

To start using the module:

  • If using MongoDb: Ensure MongoDB is set up (see Dependencies).
  • Use the MongoStorage class to connect the module to MongoDB, or implement your own storage that extends the StorageInterface.
  • Dependencies
  • Node.js (v14 or above)
  • MongoDB (for persistence)
  • Docker (for containerized setup)

You can get MongoDB and Docker running by following these links:

Install MongoDB: https://www.mongodb.com/try/download/community Install Docker: https://www.docker.com/products/docker-desktop/

Initialize the BookingManager

To use the module, first initialize your chosen storage and pass it to the BookingManager. See example below:

Design

Getting Started

CI/CD Flow

Linting: Code is linted on every push using ESLint.

Testing: Unit tests are run using Jest.

This project uses Jest as the testing framework for unit tests. Jest is a delightful JavaScript testing framework that focuses on simplicity. It provides a robust and user-friendly environment for testing JavaScript code, including asynchronous functions.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have the following installed before running the tests:

  • Node.js (version 14 or higher)
  • npm (Node package manager)
  • Jest
  • Babel

Run the test using: npm test

Writing Tests
  • Location: Create your test files in the tests directory or in the same directory as the module you are testing, using the naming convention *.test.js.

  • Structure: Each test file should import the module to be tested and Jest's testing functions. Here's an example of a basic test structure:

Getting Started

  • Mocking Dependencies: In your tests, you may need to mock dependencies to isolate the code being tested. Jest provides a powerful mocking system to simulate the behavior of modules and functions. Use jest.fn() to create mock functions and control their return values.

Docker Build: A Docker image is built automatically and tested in a containerized environment.

Deployment: The module is published to npm upon passing all checks.
