Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

bing_count

counts the number of bing search results for the given query

Install

npm install bing_count

Using

var bing_count = require('bing_count')
bing_count('food', function(count) {
  console.log(count) // will output
})

Bing authentication

Please place your credentials in a yaml file .getsecret.yaml with the format

bing_account_key: your_app_secret_here

Or set bing_count.account_key to the app secret, or specify the environment variable bing_account_key

Caching

You need to run a mongodb instance on localhost so that results can be cached.

The mongosrv command allows you to do this easily:

npm install -g mongosrv
mongosrv

To specify a different mongo url, modify bing_count.keyval.mongourl
