Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Contributors needed: I'm looking for people that are willing to help me maintain and improve this plugin.

NPM package aurelia-back-to-top

In users page, try scrolling to load sample data and show back button -> Live demo

What is aurelia-back-to-top plugin?

aurelia-back-to-top is a very simple plugin for Aurelia that adds button for scrolling page back to top. This feature can be easily integrate with infinite scroll loading many elements into table or any other container. Using this button user will still be able to get back to the top of the page very quickly.

aurelia-back-to-top has very similar functionality as [angular-backtop] (https://github.com/padsbanger/angular-backtop) with one difference - button is visible immediately after the page is scrolled a few pixels, you don't need to scroll page to the bottom.

Back to top in action

Installation prerequisites

Obviously, you need to have installed NodeJs and Gulp. aurelia-infinite-scroll was based on Aurelia plugin and requires only standard Aurelia libraries except for jquery. It's highly recommended to use JSPM for package management.

Installation

jspm install npm:aurelia-back-to-top

Using Npm:

npm install aurelia-back-to-top --save

Usage guide

In your Aurelia configuration file(most commonly main file) add the plugin :

export function configure(aurelia: Aurelia) {
  aurelia.use
    .standardConfiguration()
    .developmentLogging()
    .plugin('aurelia-back-to-top');

  aurelia.start().then(() => aurelia.setRoot());
}

Then you can use custom element 'back-to-top' anywhere in the code like this for example:

<template>
    <div class="some-container-with-elements"></div>

	<back-to-top></back-to-top>
</template>

Inside this custom element is rendered link & icon html shown below.

<a class="back-to-top">
	<i class="fa fa-chevron-circle-up"></i>
</a>

By default it uses font-awesome classes, but you can change icon class to anything you want i.e. bootstrap using standard glyphicons.

<template>
    <div class="some-container-with-elements"></div>

	<back-to-top icon-class="glyphicon glyphicon-triangle-top"></back-to-top>
</template>

To make everything work and look pretty, apply your styles to back-to-top element. Sass sample class:

.back-to-top {
    bottom: 20px;
    color: $color-dark-grey;
    cursor: pointer;
    display: none;
    font-size: 45px;
    opacity: .7;
    position: fixed;
    right: 20px;
    z-index: 5;

    &:hover {
        color: $color-dark-grey;
    }

    @media (min-width: 992px) {
        &:hover {
            color: $color-blue;
        }
    }
}

Notice: it is recommended to use use only one back-to-top element per html page.

Browser support

This plugin should work with all modern browsers, although it is still in early phase and can contain few bugs. Current version was tested in IE11, Edge and Chrome.
