Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Installation

Run the following command in the root of your project

npm i astra-protocol-x-parser

Notes

If you are using the setting $MODE,4 on your device, the device will not send a login packet when it connects and will instead send reports straight away and encode the IMEI within the packet header.

In this case, the IMEI will be available in the ProtocolXPacket object under the mode4Imei property.

Basic example

const net = require('net');
const {ProtocolXParser, ProtocolXParserOptions} = require('astra-protocol-x-parser');

let server = net.createServer((c) => {
    console.log('client connected');

    c.on('end', () => {
        console.log('client disconnected');
    });

    c.on('error', (e) => {
        console.log('client socket error', e);
    });

    c.on('data', (data) => {
        console.log(data.length+' bytes rxd');

        try
        {
            /*
                Initiate a new ProtocolXParser with your received data, use the options parameter to change certain behaviour.
            */
            let parser = new ProtocolXParser(
                data,
                new ProtocolXParserOptions(
                    /*
                        enableMode4: Set this option to true to make the parser check the packet for an IMEI when using $MODE,4.

                        Enabling this is NOT RECCOMENDED.
                        You should use your device with $MODE,6 configuration to enable login packets instead of encoding it in the data packets.
                    */
                    false
                )
            );

            /*
                By default, devices use $MODE,6 which means they will send a login packet before sending data.
                If the data received is the login packet, isLogin will be 'true' and details about the device
                can be accessed under the parser's loginData property
            */
            if (parser.isLogin)
            {
                console.log(parser.loginData);
                /*
                    EXAMPLE OUTPUT:

                    ProtocolXLoginData {
                        imei: '860873045366969',
                        model: 'AT402',
                        vin: '',
                        firmwareVersion: '7.0.70.3',
                        hardwareRevision: '1',
                        settingsChecksum: '8A1B'
                    }
                */
            }
            else if (parser.packet?.reports)
            {
                /*
                    If your device is using $MODE,4 which means it will not send a login packet,
                    the device's IMEI will be available under the packet's mode4Imei property, othwerwise
                    it will be undefined.

                    Example:
                    if (parser.packet.mode4Imei)
                    {
                        console.log('device is using $MODE,4, imei: ', parser.packet.mode4Imei);
                    }
                */
                parser.packet.reports.forEach((report) => {
                    console.log(report);
                    /*
