node-alloc
Buddy allocator backed by a Buffer.
This is likely less efficient than allocating new Buffers and letting them be garbage-collected. You should probably never use this for anything serious, unless you are confident that this will solve your very particular problem, or you simply miss the good ol' days of manual memory management.
Install
npm install alloc
Use
Configure a new buddy allocator. Optional minSize
can be used to limit
the smallest block that the allocator will allocate (defaults to 1); any
requests for fewer than minSize
bytes will still use up a minSize
block.
var BuddyAllocator = require('alloc').BuddyAllocator;
var buddy = new BuddyAllocator(16384, {minSize: 16});
Allocate some blocks, and remember to free them later.
var block = buddy.alloc(960);
buddy.free(block);
Keep an eye on internal fragmentation with powerful analytics tools!
var frag = buddy.bytesWasted / buddy.bytesAllocated;
console.log('Internal fragmentation: %d%%', frag * 100);
