Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

The flag object

The flag object module is an object similar in appearance to the media object, but which provides slightly more advanced functionality like vertical alignment. The flag-object is a bit more verbose than the media-object and based on display: table; which at times can cause some trouble. Read Harry Roberts article on The Flag Object

Install using npm:

    $ npm install --save-dev aleut.objects.flag

Usage

Basic usage of the flag-object uses the required classes:

<div class="o-flag">
    <div class="o-flag__img">
		<img src="image-here.png">
	</div>
	<div class="o-flag__body">
		Some text-like content here.
	</div>
</div>

Example of o-flag

The only valid children of the .o-flag node are .o-flag__img and .o-flag__body.

Options

Other, optional classes can supplement the required base classes:

  • .o-flag--flush: remove the space between the image and the text.
  • .o-flag--[tiny|small|large|huge]: alter the spacing between image and the text.
  • .o-flag--rev: Switches the direction of the image and the text.
  • .o-flag--[top|bottom]: Specify the location of the image relative to the text. The default is centered.
  • .o-flag--responsive: If the flag-object should break with image over the text on a breakpoint.

For example:

<div class="o-flag o-flag--rev o-flag--small">
    <div class="o-flag__img">
		<img src="image-here.png">
	</div>
	<div class="o-flag__body">
		Some text-like content here.
	</div>
</div>

Example of o-flag options

Enable options

To enable the optional classes set the variables to true before you import the _objects.flag.scss-file.

$o-flag--tiny:       false !default;
$o-flag--small:      false !default;
$o-flag--large:      false !default;
$o-flag--huge:       false !default;
$o-flag--rev:        false !default;
$o-flag--flush:      false !default;
$o-flag--top:        false !default;
$o-flag--bottom:     false !default;
$o-flag--responsive: false !default;

Modify options

To modify the breakpoint of .o-flag--responsive you can change this variable and set it to your preferred option before you import the _objects.flag.scss-file.

$o-flag-collapse-at:        720px !default;
