Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

API (V 1.2.1)

agr-util.isUndefined(val)

Checks a value and determines if it is undefined.

Parameters

val: Any, Value to check.

Returns

Boolean, True if the value is undefined, false otherwise.

Example

var util = require('agr-util');
var val1 = 'something', val2 = null, val3;

console.log(util.isUndefined(val1)); // displays false
console.log(util.isUndefined(val2)); // displays false
console.log(util.isUndefined(val3)); // displays true

Parameters

val: Any, Value to check. Can be any valid JavaScript.

Returns

Boolean, True if the value is null, false otherwise.

Example

var util = require('agr-util');
var val1 = 'something', val2 = null, val3;

console.log(util.isNull(val1)); // displays false
console.log(util.isNull(val2)); // displays true
console.log(util.isNull(val3)); // displays false

agr-util.isNullOrUndefined(val)

Checks a value and determines if it is null or undefined.

Parameters

val: Any, Value to check.

Returns

Boolean, True if the value is null or undefined, false otherwise.

Example

var util = require('agr-util');
var val1 = 'something', val2 = null, val3;

console.log(util.isNullOrUndefined(val1)); // displays false
console.log(util.isNullOrUndefined(val2)); // displays true
console.log(util.isNullOrUndefined(val3)); // displays true

agr-util.isEmptyObject(val)

Checks that an object is empty. In this case empty means that the object has no properties (i.e. val = {}). A null or undefined value will also be treated as empty.

Parameters

val: Object, Value to check. Must be an Object type.

Returns

Boolean, True if the object is empty, false otherwise.

Example

var util = require('agr-util');
var val1 = 'something', val2 = null, val3, val4 = {}, val5 = {prop: 14};

console.log(util.isEmptyObject(val1)); // displays false
console.log(util.isEmptyObject(val2)); // displays true
console.log(util.isEmptyObject(val3)); // displays true
console.log(util.isEmptyObject(val4)); // displays true
console.log(util.isEmptyObject(val5)); // displays false

agr-util.isEmptyArray(val)

empty means that the array has no values (i.e. its length is 0). A null or undefined value will also be treated as empty.

Parameters

val: Array, Value to check. Must be an Array type.

Returns

Boolean, True if the array is empty, false otherwise.

agr-util.isEmptyString(val)

empty means that the string has no characters, including white- space. A null or undefined value will also be treated as empty.

Parameters

val: String, Value to check. Must be a String type.

Returns

Boolean, True if the string is empty, false otherwise.

agr-util.isNullOrEmpty(val)

works on any valid JavaScript object. For strings empty means null, undefined, or ''. For arrays empty means null, undefined, or []. For objects empty means null, undefined, or {}. False otherwise.

Alias (AKA) agr-util.inoe(val)

Parameters

val: Any, Value to check.

Returns

Boolean, True if the value is null, undefined, or empty.

agr-util.isNullOrWhitespace(val)

Checks a value to determine if it is null or empty. This method works on any valid JavaScript object. For strings empty means null, undefined, '', or a string consisting only of whitespace. For arrays empty means null, undefined, or []. For objects empty means null, undefined, or {}. This method works on any object, but it is most useful for strings.

Alias (AKA) agr-util.inow(val)

Parameters

val: Any, Value to check.

Returns

Boolean, True if the value is null, undefined, empty, or whitespace. False otherwise.

agr-util.isObject(val)

Parameters

val: Any, Value to check.

Returns

Boolean, True if the value is an object, false otherwise.

agr-util.isArray(val)

Parameters

val: Any, Value to check.

Returns

Boolean, True if the value is an array, false otherwise.

agr-util.isString(val)

Parameters

val: Any, Value to check.

Returns

Boolean, True if the value is a string, false otherwise.

agr-util.nullValueList(val, vals)

Similar to the oracle nvl or the coalesce function in ms sql.
Returns the first non-null value from the available choices.
Note that the vals param can be an array of possible values to return. If the value that should be returned is an array, and not a value inside the array, then the original array to return must be placed within an array wrapper. If this is not done the function will think that it must return a value within the array and not the array itself.

Alias (AKA) agr-util.nvl(val,vals)

Parameters

val: Any, Value to be checked. It is returned if not null.

vals: Any, Value or values to return if val is null. Can be a

Returns

Any, First non-null value found.

agr-util.duplicateObject(template, values)

Creates a new object with the properties of the first param.
The values of the properties are set to the values found in the secondparam if they exist.

Alias (AKA)

agr-util.dupo(template,values)

agr-util.dparams(template,values)

Parameters

template: Object, Object to be used as a template. The result from the function contains the same properties as this object.

values: Object, Object with the new values to override the defaults in the template object.

Returns

Object, New object with the properties specfified in the first param and the values, if any, from the second param. Returns an empty object if the template is null.

Example

	var util = require('agr-util');
	var template = {one: 1, two: 'two'};
	var test1, test2, test3, test4;

	test1 = util.duplicateObject(template);
	test2 = util.duplicateObject(template, {two: 'foo'});
	test3 = util.duplicateObject({}, template);
	test4 = util.duplicateObject(template, {one: 100, two: 'bar', three: 'ignored'});

	console.log(test1)); // {one: 1, two: 'two'}
	console.log(test2); // {one: 1, two: 'foo'}
	console.log(test3); // {one: 1, two: 'two'}
	console.log(test4); // {one: 100, two: 'bar'}

Tests an object to see if it is a function.

parameters

val: Object, Object to check.

Returns Boolean, True if the value is a function, false otherwise

Example

var util = require('agr-util');

console.log(util.isFunction({})); // returns false
console.log(util.isFunction('')); // returns false
console.log(util.isFunction(function () { return this; })); // returns true
console.log(util.isFunction(util.isFunction); // returns true

agr-util.isBoolean(val)

Checks if the input is a boolean type or not.

parameters

val: Any, Object to check.

console.log(util.isBoolean(util.isFunction); // returns false

agr-util.getSetProperty(obj, prop, val)

Sets the object property to the specified value or returns the current value of the property.
If the property does not exist and a value is given it creates the property in the object.

Alias (AKA)

agr-util.gsp(obj, prop, val)

parameters

obj: Object, Object from which we want to get or set properties. A new object will be instantiated if it is falsey.

prop: String, Name of the object property which we want to get or set. Cannot be null.

val: Any, The value that we want to set the property to. If null we return the current property value.

Returns Any, If the prop value is null, undefined, or empty string

Throws Error, If the prop value is null, undefined, or empty string.

Example

var util = require('agr-util');
var objOne = {}, objTwo = {foo: 'bar'};

console.log(util.getSetProperty(objOne, 'foo')); // outputs 'rab'
console.log(util.getSetProperty(objOne, 'bar')); // outputs 'oof'
console.log(objOne); // outputs {foo: 'rab', bar: 'oof'}

// the following throw errors
