Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Compose is a small library that help to links your javascript to your DOM.
⚠️ This library is work in progress, the API is subject to change until the v1.0 release.

Summary

Installation

$ npm i @wbe/compose

Component

add

This method allows to 'add' new Component instance to the tree. It returns a single instance and associated properties.

Add component inside the class:

class Foo extends Component {
  bar = this.add(Bar)

  method() {
    // then, access child Bar instance
    this.bar.root
    this.bar.mounted()
    this.bar.unmounted()
    // etc...
  }
}

The method accepts a static props parameter which we can access from the new Bar component via this.props.

bar = this.add(Bar, { props: { foo: "bar" } })

addAll

addAll will return an array of instances.

<div>
  <div class="Bar"></div>
  <div class="Bar"></div>
</div>
class Foo extends Component {
  bars = this.addAll(Bar)
  // Returns array of Bar: [Bar, Bar]
}

find

find is a simple this.root.querySelector() wrapper.
This method allows retrieving BEM element of current $root component.

<div class="Bar">
  <h1 class="Bar_title">Hello</h1>
</div>
class Bar extends Component {
  // <h1 class="Bar_title">Hello</h1> can be query with:
  $title = this.find("_title")
  // or
  $title = this.find("Bar_title")
}

findAll

findAll is a simple this.$root.querySelectorAll() wrapper.
This method returns a DOM Element array.

<div class="Bar">
  <div class="Bar_icon">icon</div>
  <div class="Bar_icon">icon</div>
</div>
class Bar extends Component {
  $icons = this.findAll("_icon")
  // [div.Bar_icon, div.Bar_icon]
}

lifecycle

beforeMount

Each class extended by Component provide a life-cycle methods collection. It's particularly useful when Stack class is used.

beforeMount(): void

Method called before class component is mounted, in at begining of class constructor.

mounted

mounted(): (()=> void) | void

Method called after class component is mounted. Children component instances are now available. It can return a function to be called when the component is unmounted.

unmounted

unmounted(): void

Method called after class component is unmounted. The parent component observer will called this unmounted method automatically if the current component is removed from DOM. All children component instances are also unmounted after this method is called.
