Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

UI Dev Kit

UI Dev Kit is a set of Web Components & Custom Elements to build widgets and even web apps in a declarative style.

UI Dev Kit elements have three modes:

  1. Custom Element - 100% convenience;
  2. Web Component - 100% security;
  3. Custom Element Wrapper - 100% customization;

UI Dev Kit takes TypeScript, JSX, a tiny virtual DOM layer, efficient one-way data binding, an asynchronous rendering pipeline (similar to React Fiber), and lazy-loading out of the box, and generates 100% standards-based Web Components & Custom Elements that run in any browser supporting the Custom Elements v1 spec.

UI Dev Kit elements are just HTML Web Components & HTML Custom Elements, so they work in any major framework or with no framework at all.

Getting Started

Check out our docs here.

Using Components

There are two strategies we recommend for using UI Dev Kit:

Script tag

  • Put a script tag <script type="module" src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/@uiwebkit/udk@latest/dist/udk.esm.js"></script> in the head of your index.html
  • To support old browsers, also put a script tag <script nomodule src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/@uiwebkit/udk@latest/dist/udk.js"></script> in the head of your index.html
  • Then you can use the element anywhere in your template, JSX, html etc

Node Modules

  • Run npm i @uiwebkit/udk --save
  • Put a script tag similar to this <script type="module" src="node_modules/@uiwebkit/udk/dist/udk.esm.js"></script> in the head of your index.html
  • To support old browsers, also put a script tag <script nomodule src="node_modules/@uiwebkit/udk/dist/udk.js"></script> in the head of your index.html
  • Then you can use the element anywhere in your template, JSX, html etc
