Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

This package provides tracing capabilities using OpenTelemetry and Jaeger.

Local Development Setup

Prerequisites

  • Docker and Docker Compose installed on your machine

Setting up Jaeger

  1. Navigate to the tracer package directory:
cd packages/tracer
  1. Start the Jaeger and NGINX services using docker-compose:
docker-compose -f docker/docker-compose.yml up -d

This will start:

  • Jaeger all-in-one container with the UI available at http://localhost:16686
  • NGINX reverse proxy for CORS handling

Usage

Ports

  • 16686: Jaeger UI
  • 4318: OTLP HTTP receiver (NGINX proxy)

Viewing Traces

  1. Open http://localhost:16686 in your browser
  2. Select your service from the "Service" dropdown
  3. Click "Find Traces" to view your application's traces

Stopping the Services

To stop the services:

docker-compose -f docker/docker-compose.yml down
