Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@trkm/object-json-path-ts

Using a small subset of JSONpath features, object-json-path-ts gets or sets a value in a JSON object.

Features

  • A 100% typescript library.

Usage

Construct and access an object using JSONPath. The two functions provided are:

  • insertIntoObject - Inserts a value to an object given a JSON path.
  • getFromObject - Returns the value from a JSON path.

insertIntoObject

Inserts a value to an object given a JSON path.

import { insertIntoObject } from '@trkm/object-json-path-ts';

// build an admin using one path/value at a time.
const adminUser = {};
insertIntoObject(adminUser, { path: 'fullName', value: 'Happy Admin' });
insertIntoObject(adminUser, { path: 'privileges', value: ['admin', 'reader'] });

// Resulting adminUser value
{
  fullName: 'Happy Admin',
  privileges: [ 'admin', 'reader' ]
}

// build a user providing multiple path/values at the same time.
const user = {};
insertIntoObject(user, [
  { path: 'name.first', 'Happy'},
  { path: 'name.last', 'User'}
]);

// Resulting user value
{
  name: {
    first: 'Happy',
    last: 'User'
  }
}

getFromObject

Returns a value from an object given a JSON path.

import { getFromObject } from 'object-json-path-ts';

const user = {
  name: {
    first: 'Happy',
    last: 'User'
  }
};

const value = getFromObject(user, 'name.first');

Intent

The intent is to compose objects whose shapes are not known ahead of time. The following code uses javascript object composition:

const firstName = 'Happy';
const lastName = 'User';

const user = {
  name: {
    first: firstName,
    last: lastName,
  }
}

However, this requires knowledge of the object's shape at development time.

Example Usage

We want to build an object based on web page context dynamically. We pull context from different sources on the page, such as HTML parameters, cookies, local storage, etc., and store them in an object. Instead of composing the final object using javascript, we define the mapping between a given context value and the object using JSON. The JSON is passed to a builder, http-context for example, which uses this library to get and set values to a javascript object.

Development
