Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

TSOpenLDB

A typescript library for interacting with the UK National Rail OpenLDBSV (staff) web service

API Registration: http://openldbsv.nationalrail.co.uk/

API Documentation: https://lite.realtime.nationalrail.co.uk/OpenLDBSVWS/

Library documentation: https://thetransportlab.github.io/TSOpenLDB/

Also found in the /docs folder

Install

yarn add @thetransportlab/tsopenldb
Basic Usage Example
const apiKey = "ADD_YOUR_API_KEY";
import OpenLDB, { ITSOpenLDB } from "tsopenldb";
const LDB: ITSOpenLDB = new OpenLDB({apiKey});

// You can use async-await or .then()
// You should add error handling in any case, as it will throw if it can't contact the API or the API returns an error (e.g. status code !== 200)
const requestConfig = {
    crs: "LDS",
    numRows: 150,
    time: new Date()
};
LDB.getDepartureBoardByCRS(requestConfig)
    .then((data) => console.log(data));
Why?

There already exist several libraries which implement support for the calls (though many of them only support the non-staff endpoint) but none of them provide information on the responses. Essentially, they offer a way of creating a SOAP response and parsing the XML to JSON. To date, my library is the only one that serves this purpose and also supports typescript.

Sure, I could have created a .d.ts file for an existing library, but why not try and do better?

Developer Notes

This library is a work in progress, but mostly completed. The interfaces are still in the process of being typed and so some properties which the API returns may throw an error with typescript. As I'm building an API around this library, I'll publish new versions as I discover missing properties in my own testing or find properties which have incorrect types or child interfaces.

I've done my best to make sure all the calls work as intended, but feel free to open an issue if you have any problems.
