Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Built With Stencil

Vuh Design System

Vuh is a project created with the purpose of having a common design system for our company, allowing us to do rapid prototypes. It is comprised of web components that can be used on any of the major JS front-end frameworks. This is possible thanks to Stencil JS, a compiler that generates Web Components (more specifically, Custom Elements) and builds high performance web apps.

Stencil combines the best concepts of the most popular frameworks into a simple build-time tool:

  • Virtual DOM
  • Async Rendering
  • Reactive Data Binding
  • Typescript (yes, configured by default!)
  • JSX

For the small minority of browsers that do not support modern browser features and APIs, Stencil will automatically polyfill them on-demand.

It also has a tiny API which doesn't need to be learned and re-learned, but rather heavily relies on web standards.

So, if you've worked with React or any other front-end library, you'll feel very comfortable!

Setting Up the Design System in React

  1. Create a new file on your React project's root folder. For this example, we'll call the new file register-web-components.ts, but feel free to name it however you like.
import {  defineCustomElements,  JSX as LocalJSX, } from '@the-ksquare-group/vuh-stencil-components/loader';
import '@the-ksquare-group/vuh-stencil-components/www/build/vuh-stencil.css';
import { DetailedHTMLProps, HTMLAttributes } from 'react';

type StencilProps<T> = {
 [P in keyof T]?: Omit<T[P], "ref"> | HTMLAttributes<T>;
};

type ReactProps<T> = {
 [P in keyof T]?: DetailedHTMLProps<HTMLAttributes<T[P]>, T[P]>;
};

type StencilToReact<
 T = LocalJSX.IntrinsicElements,
 U = HTMLElementTagNameMap
> = StencilProps<T> & ReactProps<U>;

declare global {
 export namespace JSX {
 interface IntrinsicElements extends StencilToReact {}
 }
}
defineCustomElements(window);
  1. On your React project's index file, import the file you just created.
import './register-web-components';

Setting Up the Design System in Vue

  1. Add the following to your Vue project's main.js file:
import {
  applyPolyfills,
  defineCustomElements
} from '@the-ksquare-group/vuh-stencil-components/loader';
import '@the-ksquare-group/vuh-stencil-components/www/build/vuh-stencil.css';
// if you want theming options, include your css path
import './custom-global.css';
applyPolyfills().then(() => {
  defineCustomElements();
});
Vue.config.ignoredElements = [/^k-/];
