Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

This package is no longer maintained

This is an unofficial package, is not maintined by Intercom, and now should now be considered deprecated. I can not recommend using external dependencies to manage adding simple scripts to your page. Please refer to official Intercom documentation for installation instructions.

Installing Intercom (and other similar third party scripts) is trivial without using a package like react-intercom. Using an unofficial dependency to do so may be convenient, but ultimately is not something I recommend. Unnecessary third party dependencies introduce unnecessary security risks and compatibility risk. If you'd like to maintain an internal version of this package, please fork this repo or use this package as a guide on how that can be done. Its easy!

react-intercom

A component to configure and enable Intercom in your react application. react-intercom is meant to support both the legacy and current versions of intercom messenger. If you run into issues, please submit an issue. Pull requests are also welcome!

Installation

npm i react-intercom --save

Usage

Inside of your application where you would be running Intercom, insert Intercom:

import React from 'react';
import Intercom from 'react-intercom';

export class App extends React.Component {

  render () {
    const { appUser } = this.props;

    const user = {
      user_id: appUser.id,
      email: appUser.email,
      name: appUser.name
    };

    return (
      <div className="app">
        <Intercom appID="az33rewf" { ...user } />
      </div>
    );
  }
}

This loads the javascript required to boot Intercom, and will update the settings when the props change. For example, when the active user changes in the application, new props should be passed to reflect that, and Intercom will be registering the new user. react-intercom also exports the singleton window.Intercom if you'd rather interact with a module than window. For example, where you'd like to log an event in your application:

import { IntercomAPI } from 'react-intercom';
IntercomAPI('trackEvent', 'invited-friend');

This is, of course, equivalent to just calling window.Intercom('trackEvent', 'invited-friend'); or even Intercom('trackEvent', 'invited-friend');.
