Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Telavant Schematics for Angular CLI

This is a module that provides a customized version of @schematic/angular to help us reduce setup time for new projects. To use it, specify the package with the -c option to ng new:

npm install -g @angular/cli
npm install -g @telavant/schematics
ng new -c @telavant/schematics projectname

The new project will be configured to use the @telavant/schematics collection automatically.

Changes from @angular/schematics

  • Added ng new --universal to instruct the application generator to set up server-side rendering during project creation if desired, versus doing it as a second step.

  • Files will be created under their associated module (specified by the -m option), resulting in a more natural file hierarchy.

  • Classes, enums, and interfaces now have the -m option, though in their cases it's only used to install the files in the same folder as the specified module.

  • Changed defaults for the application generator to enable the routing and service worker features, and sets the stylesheet extension to scss.

  • Added bootstrap schematic for setting up Twitter Bootstrap.

  • Added typeorm schematic for setting up TypeORM.

  • Incorporated @ngrx/schematics.

Getting Started With Schematics

This repository is a basic Schematic implementation that serves as a starting point to create and publish Schematics to NPM.

Testing

To test locally, install @angular-devkit/schematics globally and use the schematics command line tool. That tool acts the same as the generate command of the Angular CLI, but also has a debug mode.

Check the documentation with

schematics --help

Unit Testing

npm run test will run the unit tests, using Jasmine as a runner and test framework.

Publishing

To publish, simply do:

npm run build
npm publish

That's it!
