Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Synonym's React Mathquill

npm version

Overview

This is a fork of the react-mathquill project, which wraps MathQuill in React components. We've made some updates to the underlying MathQuill library to add new features, remove the dependency on jQuery, and reduce bundle size.

Getting Started

  • Run npm install
  • Build with npm run build and make sure there are no errors
  • You can run the examples with npm run start:example and navigate to http://localhost:8080/. Make sure that the editable math field works!
  • If you make a change to our fork of MathQuill, run the ./mathquill-build.sh script to bring in those changes.
  • IMPORTANT! Make sure you delete the font-face imports in the CSS file mathquill-basic.css! This causes some weird runtime error to occur due to a missing Node.js builtin function. Eventually we'll remove that manual step.
  • Deploy the package to npm with npm publish

Examples

Editable Math Field

import React, { useState } from 'react'
import { addStyles, EditableMathField } from 'react-mathquill'

// inserts the required css to the <head> block.
// you can skip this, if you want to do that by yourself.
addStyles()

const EditableMathExample = () => {
  const [latex, setLatex] = useState('\\frac{1}{\\sqrt{2}}\\cdot 2')

  return (
    <div>
      <EditableMathField
        latex={latex}
        onChange={(mathField) => {
          setLatex(mathField.latex())
        }}
      />
      <p>{latex}</p>
    </div>
  )
}

Static Math Field

import React from 'react'
import { addStyles, StaticMathField } from 'react-mathquill'

// inserts the required css to the <head> block.
// you can skip this, if you want to do that by yourself.
addStyles()

const StaticMathExample = () => (
  <StaticMathField>{'\\frac{1}{\\sqrt{2}}\\cdot 2'}</StaticMathField>
)

Documentation

This function, when called, will append a <style id="react-mathquill-styles"> tag to the <head> of the document. The style tag includes all the required styles for Mathquill to work.

This function is not necessary, provided you include the styles in another way. See Mathquill Docs - Download and Load
