Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Springer Nature Submission Header

Springer nature branded 'submission details' component.

Usage

HTML

The template requires you have the following data available:

submission: { abstract: { html } articleType, authors: [{ givenName, familyName }], journalTitle, revisionVersion, submissionId, submittedTimestamp, title: { html, plainText }, files: { all: [ { downloadUrl, name } ] } }

The template included is handlebars, but it is not required. It also assumes you have a defaultDateFormat helper available to format your date as DD Mmm YYYY, and an invalidEmailAddress helper, but these need not necessarily be handled in the template.

This component requires the global expander component. It also requires the arrow mixin, and some utilies and settings from the brand context (see below).

CSS

Import the styles into your main stylesheet

// core.scss
@import '@springernature/springernature-submission-header/scss/50-components/core';
// enhanced.scss
@import '@springernature/brand-context/springernature/scss/10-settings/colors/default';
@import '@springernature/springernature-submission-header/scss/10-settings/icons';
@import '@springernature/springernature-submission-header/scss/10-settings/spacing';
@import '@springernature/brand-context/default/scss/10-settings/typography';
@import '@springernature/brand-context/default/scss/10-settings/breakpoints';

@import '@springernature/brand-context/default/scss/30-mixins/arrow';
@import '@springernature/brand-context/springer/scss/30-mixins/links';
@import '@springernature/brand-context/default/scss/30-mixins/media-query';

@import '@springernature/springernature-submission-header/scss/50-components/enhanced';

@import '@springernature/brand-context/default/scss/60-utilities/display';
@import '@springernature/brand-context/default/scss/60-utilities/flex';
@import '@springernature/brand-context/default/scss/60-utilities/hiding';

The component CSS specifies several icons, the email icon, and the warning icon, both of which can be found in the brand context. The invalid email icon is the email icon with a red fill.

Javascript

import the expander package, and the popup package, and initialise

import {Expander} from '@springernature/global-expander/js/expander';
import {Popup} from '@springernature/global-popup/js/popup';

const abstractExpanderTrigger = document.querySelector('[data-component-abstract-expander]');
const abstractExpanderTarget = document.querySelector('[data-component-abstract-expander-target]');
const triggers = Array.from(document.querySelectorAll('[data-component-author-popup-trigger]'));

if (abstractExpanderTarget && abstractExpanderTrigger) {
    const abstractExpander = new Expander(abstractExpanderTrigger, abstractExpanderTarget, {});
    abstractExpander.init();
}

triggers.forEach(trigger => {
    const target = trigger.getAttribute('data-popup-target');
    new Popup(trigger, target, {});
});
