Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Tailwind Color Generator

How to Use

The generate function is primarily used to generate an extensive list of attributes and combinations for a given color. Supporting helper functions are also included to retrieve colors by their properties or manipulate them accordingly.

generate()

Generates a complete color object based on the provided color.

Parameters:

  • color - String (hex, hsl, or rgb formatted color)

Returns a detailed color object containing hexadecimal, RGB and HSL representations of that color alongside other important properties such as shades and luminance.

const assert = require('assert');
const generate = require('./');

let result = generate('#d7006c');
console.log(result);

In this example, the generate function is used with '#d7006c' as input. The function returns the following output:

generate.hexByNumber()

Retrieves the hex value of a color based on a number identifier within an input color object.

Parameters:

  • number - Numerical identifier for the desired shade
  • input - Color object generated using generate()

Returns a matching hexadecimal color string if found, or 0 otherwise.

generate.hexByLuminance()

Retrieves the hex value of a shade within an input color object with a matched luminance.

Parameters:

  • luminance - Luminance level (ranging from 0 to 100)
  • input - Color object generated using generate()

Returns an array of hexadecimal color strings representing shades with matching luminance levels.

generate.textColor()

Determines the most readable text color given a background color.

Parameters:

  • color - Background color's hex/rgb/hsl values
  • lightColor - A light color's hex/rgb/hsl values typically white
  • darkColor - A dark color's hex/rgb/hsl values typically black

Returns an object that includes the best text color in hex, hsl, rgb and the type (light/dark).

generate.closestColor()

Finds the closest matching color from a list of colors.

Parameters:

  • hex - String (hex formatted color)

Returns an object containing the closest color's identifier and respective distances.
