Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

THIS IS A CUSTOM VERSION OF BOOTSTRAP USED BY SHORE

At Shore we create our own builds of Bootstrap. We do this for several reasons:

  • maintain our custom Shore theme
  • select only the features we need
  • add custom element styles
  • distribute as npm private module, so that we can easily use it in multiple projects to ensure a consistent brand experience

Visit the Shore Bootstrap Theme Test Page hosted on Shore CDN!

Usage

Install via npm with

npm install @shore/[email protected] (replace N with latest version)

and use the files from dist folder.

Development

Use the shore-bootstrap3 branch as a basis. Do not commit your changes to master!

Install the required npm packages from the project root via:

npm install

Simple theme testing

Execute

npm run test-server

to open the theme test page and start hacking the less files. The test-server will watch for files changes and autom. reloads the test page.

How to update the Shore Icon Font?

  • Go to Fontastic
  • Make sure shore-icons is selected (top-left, below Fontastic logo)
  • Select new icons
  • Go to Publish page
  • Click on DOWNLOAD button
  • Extract ZIP file and copy folder shore-icons to project root folder
  • run npm run -s generate-shore-icons-less

Build

npm run build

Publishing on NPM

This has to be done locally by calling npm publish.

What's happening:

  • bump version to 3.3.5-shore.(n+1)
  • git push (with tags)
  • publish on npm

Running documentation locally

  1. If necessary, install Jekyll (requires v2.5.x).
  1. Install the Ruby-based syntax highlighter, Rouge, with gem install rouge.
  2. From the root /bootstrap directory, run jekyll serve in the command line.
  3. Open http://localhost:9001 in your browser, and voilà.

Learn more about using Jekyll by reading its documentation.

Documentation for previous releases

Documentation for v2.3.2 has been made available for the time being at http://getbootstrap.com/2.3.2/ while folks transition to Bootstrap 3.

Previous releases and their documentation are also available for download.
