Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@sealsystems/streamparser is a generic stream parser for Node.js.

This is module parses streams in a generic way. You can add your own transitions and emit events while the stream is parsed.

Installation

$ npm install @sealsystems/streamparser

Quick start

First you need to integrate @sealsystems/streamparser into your application.

const StreamParser = require('@sealsystems/streamparser');

To use the generic stream parser you may use this code block. Put all your transition code into a directory transitions and require all of them with requireAll. Tell the stream parser which state to start with.

const path = require('path');

const requireAll = require('require-all');
const StreamParser = require('@sealsystems/streamparser');

const transitions = requireAll(path.join(__dirname, 'transitions'));

const streamparser = new StreamParser({ transitions, startWithState: 'ready' });

streamparser.on('myEvent', (data) => {
  console.log('myEvent:', data);
  done();
});

In each of your transitions you have to export one function named as you like (e.g transition). Within this function you have to call the done function with an object that contains at least the next state and if you have handled bytes the number of handled bytes. In the case that you are in the last state you must not pass an object to the done function.

const ready = function (data) {
  this.emit('myEvent', data);
  this.done({
    nextState: 'myNextState',
    bytesHandled: 1
  });
};

module.exports = ready;
