Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

RC Tooltips RMWC ADDON

Tooltips display informative text when users hover over, focus on, or tap an element.

  • Module @rmwc/rc-tooltip
  • Import styles:
    • Using CSS Loader
      • import '@rmwc/rc-tooltip/styles';
    • Or include stylesheets
      • '@rmwc/rc-tooltip/rc-tooltip.css'

Basic Usage

Wrap any component in a RCTooltip and provide the content attribute. The only requirement is that is has a single React child, and that the child can accept onMouseEnter, onMouseLeave, onFocus, and onClick props. This is not the standard Google Material for the web component, it is here for backwards compability. Use Tooltip to use the standard Google Material for the web component.

<>
  <RCTooltip content="Cookies">
    <IconButton icon="star_border" />
  </RCTooltip>

  <RCTooltip content="Pizza">
    <IconButton icon="favorite_border" />
  </RCTooltip>

  <RCTooltip content="Icecream">
    <IconButton icon="mood" />
  </RCTooltip>
</>

Variants

<RCTooltip content="Cake" showArrow>
  <IconButton icon="cake" />
</RCTooltip>
<RCTooltip content="Hello" align="right" open={true}>
  <IconButton icon="mood" />
</RCTooltip>
<RCTooltip
  content={
    <div style={{ display: 'flex' }}>
      <Avatar
        src="images/avatars/captainamerica.png"
        size="large"
        name="Steve Rogers"
      />
      <div style={{ marginLeft: '0.5rem' }}>
        <b>Captain America</b>
        <div>Steve Rogers</div>
      </div>
    </div>
  }
>
  <span role="button">S. Rogers</span>
</RCTooltip>
<RCTooltip
  /** You make something like a popover window by just styling your inner content. */
  content={
    <div
      style={{
        display: 'flex',
        alignItems: 'center',
        justifyContent: 'center',
        background: 'white',
        width: '20rem',
        height: '8rem',
        color: 'black',
        borderRadius: '3px',
        margin: '0 -3px'
      }}
    >
      Hello World!
    </div>
  }
>
  <span role="button">Popover Window</span>
</RCTooltip>
<>
  <RCTooltip content="Cookies" enterDelay={1000}>
    <Button label="Enter Delay" />
  </RCTooltip>

  <RCTooltip content="Pizza" leaveDelay={1000}>
    <Button label="Leave Delay" />
  </RCTooltip>

  <RCTooltip content="Icecream" enterDelay={1000} leaveDelay={1000}>
    <Button label="Both" />
  </RCTooltip>
</>
function AlignmentExample() {
  return [
    'left',
    'right',
    'top',
    'bottom',
    'topLeft',
    'topRight',
    'bottomLeft',
    'bottomRight'
  ].map((align) => (
    <RCTooltip key={align} content={`Align: ${align}`} align={align}>
      <IconButton icon="trip_origin" />
    </RCTooltip>
  ));
}

Activation

By default, tooltips will activate on hover and focus. You can change this behavior by passing one or more options to the activateOn prop.

<>
  <RCTooltip content="Cookies" activateOn="hover">
    <Button label="Hover" />
  </RCTooltip>
  ''
  <RCTooltip content="Pizza" activateOn="click">
    <Button label="Click" />
  </RCTooltip>
  <RCTooltip content="Icecream" activateOn="focus">
    <Button label="Focus" />
  </RCTooltip>
  <RCTooltip content="Cake" activateOn={['hover', 'focus']}>
    <Button label="Multiple" />
  </RCTooltip>
</>

Usage with RMWCProvider

The RMWCProvider allows you to specify global defaults for your tooltips.

<RMWCProvider
  tooltip={{
    align: 'right',
    activateOn: 'hover',
    showArrow: true,
    leaveDelay: 500,
    enterDelay: 0
  }}
>
  <RCTooltip content="Hello World!">
    <Button label="With Provider" />
  </RCTooltip>
</RMWCProvider>
