Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@omts/dag-sort 🚀

A lightweight, TypeScript-based utility for performing topological sorting on Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs). This package allows you to efficiently sort nodes of a DAG, detecting any cycles that might prevent a valid sort.

Installation 📦

Install the package via npm or pnpm:

npm install @omts/dag-sort

or

pnpm add @omts/dag-sort

Usage ✨

This package exports a topologicalSort function, which takes a DAG represented as an adjacency list and returns a valid topological order. If the graph contains cycles, an error is thrown.

Example

import { topologicalSort } from '@omts/dag-sort';

// Define a directed acyclic graph (DAG)
const graph = new Map<string, string[]>([
    ['A', ['C']],
    ['B', ['C', 'D']],
    ['C', ['E']],
    ['D', ['F']],
    ['E', ['F']],
    ['F', []]
]);

// Perform topological sort
const sorted = topologicalSort(graph);
console.log(sorted); // Output: [ 'B', 'A', 'D', 'C', 'E', 'F' ]

Handling Cycles

If the graph contains a cycle, the topologicalSort function will throw an error. This ensures that only valid DAGs are processed.

const cyclicGraph = new Map<string, string[]>([
    ['A', ['B']],
    ['B', ['C']],
    ['C', ['A']] // Cycle exists: A -> B -> C -> A
]);

try {
    topologicalSort(cyclicGraph);
} catch (error) {
    console.error(error.message); // Output: Graph has a cycle, topological sort is not possible!
}

API Documentation 📚

topologicalSort(graph: Map<string, string[]>): string[]

  • Parameters:

    • graph: A directed acyclic graph represented as an adjacency list using a Map<string, string[]>. Each key represents a node, and its corresponding value is an array of nodes it points to.
  • Returns: An array of nodes in topologically sorted order.

  • Throws: If a cycle is detected, an error is thrown with the message "Graph has a cycle, topological sort is not possible!".

Key Features ✨

  • Topological Sorting: Efficiently sorts DAG nodes in a valid linear order.
  • Cycle Detection: Automatically detects and throws an error if a cycle is found.
  • TypeScript Support: Built with TypeScript, ensuring strong typing and type safety.
  • Simple API: Provides a minimal, easy-to-use API for topological sorting.
